Call it survival of the most flexible

Builder‘s John Caulfield focuses on what it’s taking builders to eke out a livelihood in some of the most treacherous markets in housing’s darkest hour. Writing about a program that guarantees householders their monthly lease payments for six years, Caulfield reports, "Anthony Lombardo, Lombardo Homes’ president, estimates that 35 percent of his buyers are participating in this program. Another local builder, Detroit-based Hunter Pasteur Homes, has half of its buyers receiving lease payments from Marketplace Homes. ‘I’d be out of business without this,’ says owner Randy Wertheimer.
